Resumo

O objetivo deste artigo é apresentar uma reflexão sobre as origens da musicoterapia e de como as evidências produzidas por estudos na área da neurociência cognitiva originaram as bases para uma mudança de paradigma da musicoterapia com o estabelecimento de uma nova abordagem, a musicoterapia neurológica (Neurologic Music Therapy, NMT). Sem a pretensão de realizar uma revisão completa da literatura sobre o assunto, foi realizada uma compilação de estudos sobre o tema, que reflete a visão pessoal da autora, construída a partir de artigos científicos e capítulos de livros, em que a NMT é apresentada como modelo clínico de intervenção promissor no tratamento de diferentes patologias que afetam o sistema nervoso. Nessa perspectiva, são apresentadas resumidamente algumas de suas técnicas para o tratamento de funções motoras, cognitivas/afetivas e de linguagem e evidências clínicas das aplicações da NMT. Com isto, espera-se fornecer uma contribuição para profissionais da área das ciências da saúde que não possuem familiaridade com essa temática.
