Abstract

In this review article, we address the field of neurosciences applied to music and health as a fascinating field that investigates the effects of music on the human brain and how music can influence people's physical and mental health. Music activates several areas of the brain simultaneously, involving regions linked to emotions, as well as areas linked to motor and behavioral control besides neural networks linked to memories and language. The use of music in a music therapy context can also contribute to reducing anxiety and modulating mood, with a positive impact on cognitive development and improving motor skills, concentration, and memory, being a therapeutic tool for various medical conditions, from rehabilitation, including neurological disorders and neurodevelopmental disorders, to the treatment of dementia with positive results on executive functions and memories.
