Puberty is a set of neuroendocrine processes responsible for the development of secondary sexual characteristics and sexual maturation of human beings, representing the transition from childhood to adolescence. For both sexes, the onset of puberty is caused by the secretion of gonadotropin-releasing hormone by the hypothalamus (GnRH), with a consequent increase in luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). Puberty normally begins in girls between the ages of 8 and 13 and in boys between the ages of 9 and 14, thus precocious puberty is characterized by the beginning of GnRH secretion prior to the physiological pubertal period. It is known that psychological, behavioral and socioeconomic factors influence the early pubertal process, so this research showed that between 2018 and 2022, amid the COVID-19 pandemic, there was a significant increase in the dispensing of Triptorelin medication for the treatment of patients with Precocious Puberty in the Federal District. The total increase was 492.16% when comparing the annual value of release in 2018 and 2022, in the specialized component of the high-cost pharmacy of the Federal District Health Department. Thus, the Covid-19 pandemic and its consequences related to social isolation, such as family unemployment, changes in eating and sleeping habits, may have influenced the increase in the number of cases of precocious puberty in the Federal Capital.
