Abstract

This study is a narrative literature review on the endodontic treatment of deciduous teeth using the Lesion Sterilization and Tissue Repair (LSTR) technique. The aim was to analyze the clinical and radiographic effectiveness of this approach, its indications, contraindications, materials used, and potential complications. Eighteen English articles published from 2011 to the present were selected as sources from the PubMed and EBSCOhost databases. The LSTR technique has demonstrated itself as a viable alternative to conventional pulpectomy, particularly considering the challenges associated with treating deciduous molars due to anatomical, physiological factors, and the lack of cooperation from young patients. After a 6-month follow-up, there was a tendency towards increased clinical and radiographic failures in deciduous teeth treated with both LSTR and conventional methods. However, when considering the clinical and radiographic results at different follow-up periods (6, 12, and 18 months), no significant differences were found between the two treatments. In conclusion, the LSTR technique offers an intriguing option for endodontic treatment in deciduous teeth with pulp necrosis. However, it is crucial to carefully consider the advantages, disadvantages, and the need for more robust evidence to support its widespread and consistent clinical utilization.
